On her wedding morning Pam (Ann Roberts) is so scared by the promises she must make that she refuses to be married to Joe (Mick Burroughs).  Her doubts increase when she meets her father Paul (Frank Pickering, on his debut), long divorced from her mother.  Pam was taught to think him an abandoned bounder, but finds him so charming she is convinced that if his marriage disintegrated then hers is bound to fail.  Paul intervenes and persuades Joe to elope with Pam whilst he himself enjoys a reconciliation with his wife (Laura Boulding)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The play made a loss, and the Treasurer blamed this on the method of ticket sales.  The cast were allowed a week to buy tickets, then the remainder were given to the Post Office to sell.  The revolutionary idea of having a Ticket Secretary was therefore agreed upon! Things obviously aren\u2019t going well though: the next play will not go on for more than a year<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Betty Bellamy took over as producer from Gerald Kidney: she would go on to produce 28 plays.  Frank Pickering joins, and will stay for 17 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incidentally, the play that was originally planned was \u201cA Pig in a Poke\u201d, but the Rev E.J. Hugman banned the society from performing it in the Norfolk Hill schoolroom (we don\u2019t know why!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
