Noel Coward\u2019s play concerns the novelist Charles Condomine (Frank Pickering), who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati (the 17 year old newcomer Christine Ogley), to his house to conduct a s\u00e9ance, hoping to gather material for his next book<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incidentally, the play\u2019s title comes from Shelley\u2019s poem To a skylark <\/em>which begins \u201c<\/em>Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also the first appearances for Mary Taylor as Ruth, and Margaret Kitson as Elvira.  The \u201cSpirit Dresses\u201d created by Jessica Taylor and Ethel Cook were praised, as were the \u201cbreakable\u201d props constructed by John Boler.  Alwyn Marriott produced, his first attempt<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s been over a year since the last GDS play, so things aren\u2019t good.  Although last year\u2019s revolutionary idea of having a Ticket Secretary seems not to have happened, there is a Publicity Manager, Mr H.  Taylor.  As a result, \u201chandbills\u201d were distributed to all houses in Grenoside, with posters in strategic places<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The profit was rounded up to \u00a310 (\u00a3250 today) and given to the community hall fund. Members also agreed to help at the community hall Gala, held on the August Bank Holiday, by taking charge of the Hoopla Stall! <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
