This story, by Martyn Coleman, is similar to Noel Coward\u2019s Blithe Spirit, although it takes its title from Macbeth<\/em>rather than from Shelley\u2019s To a Skylark<\/em>, as Coward\u2019s did<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst welcoming enquiries from anyone, the programme is emphatic \u201cMale acting members can be sure of a hearty welcome\u201d.  15 of the society\u2019s 20 members were female at this point \u2013 in fact the next production, Star in Eclipse, has an all-female cast<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In today\u2019s money, the play makes a loss of \u00a3120, leaving the society with just \u00a3200 in the bank (half what it had a year ago), and the possibility of winding up the society is mentioned.  There are four problems – a lack of male members, finances are weak, audience support is poor, and people not in the cast are accused of a lack of enthusiasm.  At the AGM the society almost folded completely due to the lack of male actors, but agreed to continue, performing all-women plays for as long as necessary<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
