{"id":296,"date":"2020-11-07T10:56:29","date_gmt":"2020-11-07T10:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gbcplayers.uk\/?page_id=296"},"modified":"2020-11-12T10:53:12","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T10:53:12","slug":"1966-06-gcp-the-community-centre-is-officially-opened","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.gbcplayers.uk\/?page_id=296","title":{"rendered":"1966-06 (GCP) The Community Centre is officially opened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Saturday 25<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June 1966, after perhaps 15 years of planning and fund-raising and a year of building, the centre opened with a week of events including the Players, as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Grenoside Sword and Morris Dancers, Procession of past Gala Queens<br>Official opening by a Mr Colin Taylor<br>Dancers<br>Grenoside Male Voice choir, and Meersbrook Band<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Grenoside Community Players<\/strong>, newly renamed from Grenoside Dramatic Society (we don\u2019t yet know what they did, though)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Monday, there was a Film show.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tuesday saw a Beetle Drive.&nbsp;&nbsp;On Wednesday, there was a Whist Drive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Thursday, we had a Musical Appreciation evening, followed by A Demonstration of Stereo Sound (!).&nbsp;&nbsp;The first stereo LP records had been issued in 1958, and were only slowly catching on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Friday saw a Novelty Dance, with music by the \u201csensational Les Winter Quintet\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Finally, on Saturday, there was a Folk Dance Festival to end the week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-medium-font-size\">It seems that there were members of the Players on the planning committee.
