Dennis Driscoll\u2019s play is set in the industrial town of Cluney. In her tiny home Maggie Lomax (Brenda Hester) suddenly finds that her family life is full of complications. A young American (Peter Law) becomes an unexpected guest and devotes much attention to her daughter (Jean Stocks). Her son David (Peter Yates) comes home with a Bachelor of Science degree only to announce that he does not want the sort of ‘white-collar’ job Maggie had always planned for him. And to complicate things further David is pursued by a pretty girl from London (Mary Cook)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this riotous North-Country farce it is Maggie’s husband, Walter (Brian Hester), who takes most of the kicks. But although he seems more interested in rearing chickens and in exchanging secrets with his neighbour Amos Entwistle Victor Bellamy), perhaps he knows enough to be able to straighten out the tangles of his household, and to set Maggie’s mind at rest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The review notes that audience numbers fell sharply after a good opening night because of a clash with the Ecclesfield Festival.  It was Brian Hester\u2019s first appearance on stage.  Audrey Clayton helps out, doing Continuity, then stays for 29 years!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
