Georgina Reid\u2019s play presents an alternative to the traditional story of Lady Godiva riding naked through the streets of Coventry to protest about unfair taxes, and only being seen by a tailor called Thomas<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The play has Tom as a baker\u2019s boy employed to write rhymes about the famous ride. His imagination fails him, so he sneaks out to have a look and get some inspiration! However, Lady G has drunk too much, so what he sees is a serving wench!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas in the original story is the origin of \u201cPeeping Tom\u201d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by Betty Bellamy.  It\u2019s the first appearance of Terry Crookes, as Thomas. So far, we have found very few photos<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viv Stuart, who plays Lady Godiva, rode a white horse (loaned by Jane Waddington) around Grenoside to publicise the play.  She wore her costume, and a long blonde wig \u2013 and sold 25 extra tickets! Before she was told about the role, she had unfortunately had her long hair cut short\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
