In Harold Brighouse\u2019s play, Henry Hobson (Peter Race) runs a boot business in Salford.  He is overbearing, controlling, and a drunk.  His eldest daughter Maggie (Hazel Hancock) decides to marry the skilled Willie Mossop (Tony Wood), one of Hobson\u2019s boot-hands.  Her business acumen and stubbornness plus Willie\u2019s skill mean that they take away Hobson\u2019s trade and become a successful business.  When Hobson\u2019s drinking gets out of control, the previously timid Willie offers to come back if Hobson agrees to make him a partner.  Hobson must be a sleeping partner only.  Backed into a corner, with no other option, Hobson agrees<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stage crew built three separate sets.\u00a0Linda Ellis remembers Will Mossop coming up through the trapdoor in the hall floor<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first one as Grenoside Players rather than Grenoside Community Players, but we\u2019re not sure why the name was changed.  Possibly the 20th anniversary of GCP? <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
