Noel Coward’s play concerns the novelist Charles Condomine (Frank Pickering), who invites the eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati (the 17 year old newcomer Christine Ogley), to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book
Incidentally, the play’s title comes from Shelley’s poem To a skylark which begins “Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!”
It was also the first appearances for Mary Taylor as Ruth, and Margaret Kitson as Elvira. The “Spirit Dresses” created by Jessica Taylor and Ethel Cook were praised, as were the “breakable” props constructed by John Boler. Alwyn Marriott produced, his first attempt

It’s been over a year since the last GDS play, so things aren’t good. Although last year’s revolutionary idea of having a Ticket Secretary seems not to have happened, there is a Publicity Manager, Mr H. Taylor. As a result, “handbills” were distributed to all houses in Grenoside, with posters in strategic places
The profit was rounded up to £10 (£250 today) and given to the community hall fund. Members also agreed to help at the community hall Gala, held on the August Bank Holiday, by taking charge of the Hoopla Stall!
