1974-05 (GCP) Fools Rush In

This play was written by Kenneth Horne. On her wedding morning Pam (Francis Morton) is so scared by the promises she must make that she refuses to be married to Joe.  Her doubts increase on meeting her father, Paul (Roy Ollerearnshaw), long divorced from her mother (Brenda Hester).  Pam was taught to think him an abandoned bounder, but finds him so charming she is convinced that if his marriage disintegrated then hers is bound to fail.  Paul intervenes and persuades Joe (Tony Wood, making his debut) to elope with Pam whilst he himself enjoys a reconciliation with his wife

Betty Bellamy produces.  Tony stayed for 37 years, although it’s the last involvement for Lois Wyke, after 23 years. Julie Wood also joins to play Millicent the bridesmaid, though she’s still called Earnshaw at this point. However, it seems she became ill, because Eileen White was called up at the last minute to play the part

Incidentally Kenneth Horne the playwright is not the same man as the famous radio comedian of the 50’s and 60’s
