Dennis Driscoll’s play is set in the industrial town of Cluney. In her tiny home Maggie Lomax (Kath Pagdin) suddenly finds that her family life is full of complications. A young American (Paul Dearden) becomes an unexpected guest and devotes much attention to her daughter (Maxine Townson). Her son David (John Otter) comes home with a Bachelor of Science degree only to announce that he does not want the sort of ‘white-collar’ job Maggie had always planned for him. And to complicate things further David is pursued by a pretty girl from London (Deborah Hester). In this riotous North-Country farce it is Maggie’s husband, Walter (Jonathan Hester), who takes most of the kicks. But although he seems more interested in rearing chickens and in exchanging secrets with his neighbour Amos Entwistle (Adrian Ollerearnshaw), perhaps he knows enough to be able to straighten out the tangles of his household, and to set Maggie’s mind at rest
