1979-04 (GCP) The Admirable Crichton

When a yachting trip goes wrong, a household is stranded on a desert island, and the butler Crichton (John Garratt) traps animals to keep them fed

This play by J.M. Barrie (of Peter Pan fame) has one of Grenoside’s biggest casts.  Several new people therefore made their first appearances: Peter Race as Thomsett the naval officer and Elizabeth Birkby junior, as Eliza. Stage Décor is by Joan Scanlon, but it’s her last time, after 16 productions

John Walker joins as the Page Boy. His first stage appearance seems to have been in Grenoside’s Dick Whittington pantomime last year, playing Dick’s Cat!

At the annual dinner a short time later, it was announced that founder member Rachel Skinn had to resign owing to illness – although in fact she did appear on stage twice more, in 1980 and 1986

The group put out an odd request – for stuffed animals, vital to the plot!
