This John Chapman play deals with a crazy, but very likeable gang of bookies who, in order to be near the racecourse, are staying at a country hotel run by a retired colonel (David Wilson, in his first appearance for us) and his wife and daughter (Sylvia Wright and Katie Wilson). Secret rooms, sliding panels, mistaken identity and a nice little bit of romance are some of the main ingredients of this very racy and slick farce
Steve Vere remembers Ruth Kerrigan, as Sergeant Fire, forgetting a key line. The line was “Fire” ……
Directed by Julie Wood. David Laine joined, playing Flash Harry, having been coerced by Eileen White. He’d already been with Birley Carr since 1983. Steve Vere also joins, playing Alfred Tubbe. He’ll stay for 15 years. We have a promotional photo of Steve, with Tony Wood mounted on a horse, at Grenoside Stables!
Steve also claims that it’s the only play he’s been in where his trousers fell down (and yes, it was in the script!)
