1961-11 (GDS) Three half crowns

When an actress arrives at a Somerset village, frantic efforts are made to prevent her taking over from the local leading lady, who has mumps

Betty Bellamy produced the play, written by John J. Melluish.  There has been a significant change in the membership since the society was suspended 18 months, following a production with no male actors, to this one with six. The newcomers were Roy Powell as Bob Bellamy, John Helliwell as the Rev D. Beddle, Rachel Skinn as Mary the maid, John Rodgers as William the butler, and Margaret Herrod as Mrs Bellamy

The programme notes that Elizabeth Birkby Snr took over the role of Sybil Manners at short notice, although her performance gave no sign of the limited preparation time
