Incidentally Britain “went decimal” a week before the show went on. The pound stayed the same, and 5p and 10p coins had already been in use for two years (the same size and value as their one shilling and two shilling predecessors). We were also using the 50p coin, which had replaced the 10 shilling note, but the ½p, 1p and 2p coins were brand new on 15th February. There was understandable confusion despite the publicity campaign, with “So what’s that in old money?” being a common phrase!
