Cyril Campion’s story, which takes place in an English country house just off the moors, concerns an attempt to murder the bride on the night before her wedding, her pearls having been stolen and wedding gown destroyed. The detective, Paula Dark, tries to solve the problem practically, while Janet Garnet, the psychic, summons help from the spirit world
