The small town of Pathstowe in the West Riding has many eminent citizens, and one of the most outstanding is Councillor John Clugston, Justice of the Peace, (Frank Pickering) who possesses the loudest voice in the town hall and whose ambition is to be mayor. He lives with his family, housemaid and a chauffeur (all of whom we meet), and a cook (whom we do not meet); and above all things he is the tower of respectability. But we shall see…

Although H.F. Maltby’s play was agreed to be a success, members expressed concern about the quality of the scenery flats, and the haphazard way the scenery had been built. Resolutions were passed to buy new flats and new curtains “when funds were available”, reflecting the poor financial situation
Also that a Stage Manager and a House Manager be appointed, which shows their struggle to get back-stage staff
