Our previous production was Gilbert and Sullivan’s popular operetta “The Pirates of Penzance” in March. This was the 8th time that the group has performed it, but it was just as good, and as well-attended as ever. The operetta for next March will be “Ruddigore”
In the meantime, the play for October will be “Brassed Off” and rehearsals are underway. Performances will be October 14th to 16th at 7.30 pm, with a matinee on Saturday 17th. Tickets are available from Helen Bryant on 07971 264322
This website is an archive of all the photos we have of the original Grenoside and Birley Carr societies, and of the current group formed after the 2010 merger. So far that’s 2,300 photos, plus 210 programmes and lots of newspaper reviews
Both societies started putting on shows in the late 1940’s, just after the Second World War. So far, in total, there have been an astonishing 280 productions, involving nearly a thousand different people. A few stay for only one or two, some current members have done over a hundred
The archive is not finished, though. For about a quarter of the productions, we haven’t found photos or programmes yet, so if you have anything, please get in touch
What we’d also love, is to hear your stories, memories and anecdotes. Funny things happen in amateur dramatics, and one person’s recollections will often trigger another person’s. These stories are what will make the archive come alive
